We would like to invite eligible Eusoff Hall residents to apply for Eusoff Financial Aid for Semester 1 AY2016/2017. The deadline for application is on 18 August 2016.
This document details the following application information:
3) Types of financial aid schemes available at Eusoff Hall; and
4) Selection Process at the Hall
1. PROCEDURES OF APPLICATION
i. Applicants for Eusoff Financial Aid must first apply to the Office of Financial Aid (OFA) for financial aid/bursary at the university level. This is because there are larger resources and higher value aid schemes available at the university level which can be more beneficial for applicants. Applications to Eusoff Financial Aid should serve as a fall back should applicants be unsuccessful at the university level or require further assistance.
ii. All applications MUST be submitted via the - Office of Financial Aid’s Undergraduate Financial Aid Portal at: https://myaces.nus.edu.sg/webroapsbs/jsp/login.jsp. (Please note that although applications to OFA have closed on 1 April 2016, applicants can still apply by providing reasons for late submission and the university will consider applications on a case by case basis.) Please also ensure that your financial aid application has been processed by OFA. If you have been offered financial aid by OFA, this means that your application has been processed. If you have not been offered financial aid, please log into the Undergraduate Financial Aid Portal to check the status of your application.
iii. As a Eusoffian you can be eligible for Eusoff Financial Aid on top of NUS’ Financial Aid/Bursary, subject to various conditions among which include your contributions to the Hall.
iv. Students who have applied for financial aid for AY2016/2017 with OFA do not need to submit another application to the hall. However, applicants are still required to notify the hall of your intention to apply for the Eusoff Financial Aid schemes and submit a copy of your latest CCA record to the Hall Office via email to email@example.com by 18 August 2016.
2. RECOMMENDATIONS TO FACILITATE A SUCCESSFUL APPLICATION
The following recommendations may help you secure some form of assistance for your tuition fees and living expenses:
i. To help finance your tuition fees, we would suggest that you apply for the Tuition Fee Loan, CPF Education Scheme, MENDAKI Tertiary Tuition Fee Subsidy, and/or the NUS Study Loan (you will automatically be considered for the NUS Study Loan once you apply for financial aid at the Undergraduate Financial Aid Portal). More information on these schemes can be found at OFA’s website at http://www.nus.edu.sg/oam/financialaid/loans/financial-loans.html. If you face any difficulties in applying for any of these schemes, you may wish to contact OFA at 6516 2870 or via their website at www.askadmissions.nus.edu.sg.
You may wish to note that many of the University’s bursary schemes require you to take up the above-mentioned schemes as part of the bursary requirements. While there are cultural factors which disfavour loans as many of you/your parents do not wish to be indebted, a mind change may be timely as getting a loan for one’s university education is becoming an increasingly common phenomenon today.
In addition, the benefits of the Tuition Fee Loan and the NUS Study Loan are that they are interest-free during the entire period of your student candidature. Interest, often lower than other form of bank loans and repayment will only commence after you have graduated. A grace period of three months is given after your graduation to allow you to make full or lump sum payment without any interest charged. As all of you should land a job sometime after your graduation, you can easily pay back your loans over time as you work.
Taking up a study loan is a logical practice which can help alleviate your financial worries while you are studying. Importantly, having the Tuition Fee Loan, CPF Education Scheme, MENDAKI Tertiary Tuition Fee Subsidy, and/or the NUS Study Loan will help you qualify for some of the bursary schemes, if you are found eligible, and lessen you/your parents’ financial burden while you are at university.
ii. If you are a Singaporean, you may wish to note that there is a CDC/CCC Bursary of up to $3,600 and a MOE Bursary of up to $2,600 per award available to those with gross monthly per capita household income of not more than $950 and $1,900, respectively (there are stipulated conditions on concurrent awards). Once you apply for financial aid at the Undergraduate Financial Aid Portal, you will be automatically considered for these bursaries.
3. TYPES OF EUSOFF FINANCIAL SCHEMES AVAILABLE
Purpose of Award
To provide either full or partial subsidy towards the cost of hall fees (which include room and food charges) for accepted or current residents of Eusoff Hall (EH) from low-income families facing financial difficulties.
The bursary is a hall initiative to cover these costs to alleviate the financial burden on the resident so that the resident may be able to focus on the achievement of academic excellence and contribute towards the EH community.
i. Applicants must be currently enrolled or officially admitted into the NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF SINGAPORE.
ii. Applicants will be considered based on their family's financial situation and any other mitigating circumstances.

iv. Applicants currently holding any other form of grants/bursaries/scholarships through the University are welcome to apply, though they may not be able to hold two or more grants/bursaries/scholarships concurrently and may have to give up one of them ultimately. Please note that MOE/CDC/CCC Bursary recipients are allowed to hold a hall bursary concurrently.
Nature of Award
Applicants who meet the above criteria will be evaluated for one of the following bursary schemes available, which can involve:
i. total or partial waiver of hostel fees, or

EUSOFF-NGEE ANN KONGSI STUDENT FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FUND (ENAKF)

ii. Students must have made satisfactory progress in their academic programs;

i. Tuition Fee Bursaries: The maximum quantum of each award would be $2000.
ii. Emergency Aid Package: This Aid package is to help students who face unexpected and sudden financial crisis and require urgent help. Students can only apply for this once in their entire course duration. The actual amount of aid will be determined by the selection committee appointed to assess the student’s financial need but up to a maximum quantum of $1200 each. The disbursement will take place two weeks after the committee’s approval.
Purpose of Award
Eusoff Award is granted to residents based on hall contributions for students facing financial constraints. If a student has been offered a Residential Programme Bursary (RPB) and the Hall decides to offer the student with a Eusoff Award, the student may be allowed to hold these awards concurrently.
i. Applicants will be considered based on their family's financial situation and any other mitigating circumstances.
